The End of the Line

We met in a building
At the end of the lane
Where once I sat
Rapt
Trying to earn a living
We spoke in was and when
Loving words more than men
It's been a little while
But I think it's safe to assume I've made a friend
We've even invented a little game
I wonder what lies ahead
Our road is yet to be built
Will I look into your eyes again?
What will I see there?
Evidence of sin or
Proof of love restrained?
As outside the window it rains
And skyscrapers fall to the accompaniment
Of explosions
A smile flits across my face
Howard Roark and John Galt
Had a vision written in fiction
I see a vision written on your face
Keep seeing
Don't go blind
And take me with you
To the end of the line

The Bilge Master
